2025 federal quarterly estimated tax due dates
The table below lists 2025 federal Form 1040-ES payment due dates from TaxChecker's 2025 tax year configuration from IRS publications. Each row ties a calendar payment period to the IRS due date for income earned in that period.
| Period | Income earned | 2025 federal due date |
|---|---|---|
| Q1 | January 1 – March 31 | April 15, 2025 |
| Q2 | April 1 – May 31 | June 16, 2025 |
| Q3 | June 1 – August 31 | September 15, 2025 |
| Q4 | September 1 – December 31 | January 15, 2026 |
Payment periods explained
Form 1040-ES uses four annual payment periods rather than strict calendar quarters:
- Q1: income earned january 1 – march 31 — due April 15, 2025
- Q2: income earned april 1 – may 31 — due June 16, 2025
- Q3: income earned june 1 – august 31 — due September 15, 2025
- Q4: income earned september 1 – december 31 — due January 15, 2026
Weekend and holiday adjustments
When a statutory due date falls on a Saturday, Sunday, or federal holiday, the IRS may move the deadline to the next business day. The June 2025 payment illustrates this: the documented due date is June 16, 2025 rather than June 15.
Always confirm current-year dates on the IRS-published Form 1040-ES instructions before sending a payment.
State deadlines may differ
This page covers federal Form 1040-ES due dates only. Many states publish separate estimated tax schedules, thresholds, and due dates. Check your state revenue department for state-specific requirements.
Planning with TaxChecker calculators
Due dates are only one part of estimated tax planning. Amounts depend on expected annual liability, withholding, and safe harbor rules. TaxChecker's Quarterly Tax Calculator and Estimated Tax Calculator can produce federal planning estimates using these published dates—they do not calculate penalties or process payments.
